From Loom to Living Room: The Life of a Rug
August 24, 2026
Eleven weeks, one loom, ninety thousand knots. The making of a storm pattern rug, documented from shearing to shipping.
It begins with sheep. Churro wool — long-stapled, lustrous, resilient — is shorn, carded and spun by hand. Elena dyes the skeins in season: rabbitbrush gold in late summer, walnut brown in fall.
The loom is warped over three days. Then the weaving: hours of rhythm, memory and correction. There is no printed chart. The pattern lives in her hands.
