Master Weaver · Four Corners, Southwest
Elena Tallgrass
A third-generation weaver whose loom work carries forward patterns taught by her grandmother, translated for modern living.
The Story
Elena learned to card wool before she could write her name. Today her studio overlooks the high desert where she gathers plant dyes each season — rabbitbrush for gold, cochineal for crimson, indigo traded along routes older than memory. Every blanket she completes takes between three and six weeks on a traditional upright loom, and every geometric motif is woven from memory, never from a printed chart.
Craft Technique
Hand-spun churro wool, natural plant dyes, traditional upright loom weaving
